Trace and Access Cover
This is the industry term used to describe insurance cover for leak detection work.
It will be a separate clause in your policy and in general terms will cover you up to £5,000 to find the cause of your water leak.
Insurers will not usually pay for the cost of the actual repair to the pipe but will pay for all the work associated in finding it and making good any damage caused in the process of finding it.
If your property has suffered water damage as a result of the leak the cover for this internal damage will be covered by a different part of the policy under ‘Escape of Water’ and the policy limits for this will be more generous.
Sometimes your insurer will say you have to find the the leak first and then they will confirm liability, this doesn’t mean you don’t have cover, it merely transfers the risk to you the policyholder to ‘find the evidence’ before the insurer will commit to cover the costs.
The Costs of Making a Claim
We understand that insurers are not always quick to pay when you make a trace and access claim, if this is a concern then speak to us first, we usually require payment within 7 days, in certain circumstances we are willing to negotiate a reasonable period for your claim to be paid before you pay us.
Don’t forget your excess, this is the first part of any claim you are required to contribute towards, this is usually anywhere from £50 – £250.
Whatever your situation, call us now to discuss how we can help you.
